This week, I have been reading manga with supernatural theme, be it youkai, folklore or ghost story. I am a scaredy cat when it comes to ghost stories, so I make sure when it comes to that type of manga it would be during the day or if it’s at night my husband would be around.
My husband had a bi-weekly church gathering tonight and it was just me and Chloe until around 10PM. After I put Chloe to sleep around 7PM, I had a lonely dinner with only my iPad to accompany me. Somehow, I started reading Ghost Hunt.
Alone. Only the hallway and kitchen light were on. Just in case Chloe wakes up and I need to carry her around the condo to put her back to sleep. Quiet. Only the sound of the clock in the living room.
Volume 1 was not that scary. So I pressed on reading on the dining table as I wait for hubby to come home.
Volume 2. Titled the Doll House. Creepy. Oh well. Just keep on reading. Wow, this is kind of scary. I hope our new house will not have anything creepy in there. I’ll be sure to ask our Reverend to bless it before anything. I sent a message to my husband: “Come home soon.” He replied, “Almost done.” Damn. Oh, well. No need to be scared, it’s not as scary as the other ones…
Right.
I finished the volume, and just about to start reading the lighthearted side story.
When…
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Chloe CRIED on the top of her lungs. Like really really loud it echoes.
My heart shriek. My brain took a second to tell me that it’s just my baby, and I need to go pick her up. Now! Now! I rushed to my bedroom, clutching my iPad. Chloe was crying with her eyes closed. She’s having a bad dream. A thought ran across my mind, “I hope she didn’t see a ghost.”
I immediately picked her up. Hold her. Sway her. And she settled. I took her to the living room and sat down with her in my arms. I never feel so safe, cuddling a baby. (Now, I understand why she loves to fall back to sleep this way.)
James came home soon after and had a good laugh over my Ghost Hunt scare.
